A GPS tracker for military vehicles has to survive conditions a commercial fleet never sees: extreme vibration, dust, humidity, long periods without power, and the need to stay hidden from anyone who should not know a vehicle is being tracked. This category is for defense units, logistics commands, and contractors who need dependable location data on trucks, armored vehicles, and support transport, without depending on the vehicle's visible electronics or on the driver's cooperation.

We work mainly with Teltonika hardware because it covers the full range of this use case: small covert units for concealment, CAN bus models that read engine and odometer data directly from the vehicle, and backup-battery trackers that keep reporting position even if main power is cut.

Why military vehicles need dedicated tracking

Military and defense fleets face risks that go beyond simple theft: unauthorized use, deviation from assigned routes, loss of contact in remote areas, and the operational need to know exactly where every vehicle is at all times. Covert vehicle GPS tracker units address a further requirement: the tracking device itself must not be an obvious target, which means small size, hidden mounting, and no visible antenna or wiring.

Defense fleet tracking is also about accountability. Knowing which vehicle went where, for how long, and with what fuel or engine behavior supports both operational planning and internal audits.

How to choose the right unit

Selection depends on the vehicle type, how the device will be powered, and what data is needed beyond position.

  • Power range: units such as the FTC881 are built for high voltage electrical systems found in heavier military and special vehicles.
  • Backup power: the TAT140 adds an independent battery, so tracking continues even if the main power line is disconnected or damaged.
  • CAN bus data: the FMC150 and FMB140 read engine hours, fuel level, and odometer directly from the vehicle bus, useful for maintenance and usage records.
  • Accuracy and dead reckoning: the FTC927 keeps a precise position estimate even where GPS signal is weak, such as under cover or in dense terrain.
  • Size and discretion: compact models like the FMB920 or FMT100 are easier to conceal and install without altering the vehicle's appearance.

Installation and the subscription

Installation is done by wiring the unit to the vehicle's power source, positioning the antenna for reliable signal, and, where applicable, connecting to the CAN bus. For covert installations we plan the mounting point together with the customer so the device stays out of sight and out of reach during routine inspection.

Every tracker we supply is activated on our own platform with our own SIM card, on a subscription. This includes live map tracking, position history, geofencing alerts, and access through web and mobile apps. A tracker without a subscription can still store or broadcast a signal in some cases, but it gives up live tracking, alert notifications, and platform history — in practice it stops being useful for operational monitoring. Our subscription keeps the connection, the data, and the alerts active for as long as the vehicle needs to be tracked.

Typical use cases

Units move with logistics convoys where command needs continuous position updates. Vehicles stationed for long periods benefit from backup-battery models that keep reporting even when parked and unpowered. Fleets with mixed vehicle types use CAN bus trackers to combine location with engine and fuel data for maintenance planning and usage verification.

Frequently asked questions

Can a GPS tracker for military vehicles be hidden from visual inspection?

Yes. Compact models such as the FMB920 or FMT100 can be mounted in concealed locations away from the dashboard or visible wiring, depending on the vehicle's structure.

What happens if the vehicle's power is disconnected?

Models with backup battery, such as the TAT140, continue to report position for a period after main power is lost, which is useful for theft or tampering scenarios.

Do these trackers work without a subscription?

The hardware can be installed without an active subscription, but live tracking, alerts, and platform access require it. Without a subscription there is no ongoing connection to view or record the vehicle's position.

Can the tracker read engine and fuel data as well as location?

Yes, CAN bus models like the FMC150 and FMB140 read engine hours, fuel level, and odometer directly from the vehicle, in addition to GPS position.
