WIRED SENSORS

Wired GPS sensors for trucks, vans and machinery, connected directly to the tracker for reliable door, temperature and switch monitoring.

Wired GPS sensors connect directly to a Teltonika tracker with a physical cable, giving fleet managers and vehicle owners a stable, interference-free way to monitor doors, compartments, temperature and mechanical states. This category covers sensors such as the DS18B20 1-wire temperature sensor, the AQM-22 door sensor, limit switches for cargo doors or lifting equipment, and panic buttons for driver safety. It is built for installers and fleet operators who need dependable inputs that do not rely on batteries or wireless range.

These components are suited to commercial vehicles, refrigerated transport, utility vehicles and any application where a wired fleet sensor must report a precise, verifiable event to the platform in real time.

Why wired sensors matter for commercial vehicles

A wired connection removes the uncertainty of battery life and signal range. For cold chain transport, a fuel sensor GPS setup or a temperature probe wired to the tracker gives continuous, auditable readings that can be checked against delivery times. For cargo and utility vehicles, door sensors and limit switches confirm exactly when a door opened, a ramp lowered, or a mechanism activated, which matters for both security and liability.

How to choose the right sensor

Selection depends on what needs to be measured and where it will be mounted.

  • Temperature monitoring of a cargo hold or fridge unit: the DS18B20 1-wire sensor.
  • Door or compartment status: the AQM-22 door sensor.
  • Mechanical position of a ramp, tailgate, crane arm or similar: one of the LL8XCK-P series limit switches, chosen by mounting geometry.
  • Driver or passenger emergency signal: the momentary panic button, available with 28cm or 50cm cable depending on where it will be installed in the cabin.

Mounting should keep the cable protected from abrasion and moisture, and the sensor should be positioned where it reliably detects the event it is meant to report, not just where the cable reaches easiest.

Installation and the subscription

Wired sensors are installed by connecting them to the inputs of a compatible Teltonika tracker, which then reports sensor events together with GPS position through our platform. The subscription includes our own SIM card for data transmission, access to the live tracking platform and mobile apps, and alerts configured around the sensor, for example a door-open notification or a temperature threshold warning.

A tracker without a subscription can still record position and sensor data locally in some cases, but it cannot send live alerts, cannot be viewed remotely, and loses the server-side history and reporting that fleet managers rely on. Our subscription is what turns a wired sensor into a usable monitoring tool rather than a passive component.

Real use cases

A transport company running refrigerated vans uses the temperature sensor to confirm cold chain compliance on every delivery. A construction fleet uses limit switches to confirm when a tipper bed or lifting arm is engaged, useful for both safety and usage reporting. A logistics operator fits door sensors to flag unauthorized openings during transit, and drivers in higher-risk routes are equipped with a panic button wired directly to the tracker for an immediate alert.

Frequently asked questions

Can wired sensors work without a subscription?

They can be wired and will report to a compatible tracker, but without an active subscription there is no live platform access, no remote alerts and no stored history on our servers.

Which sensor fits a refrigerated vehicle?

The DS18B20 1-wire temperature sensor is the standard choice for monitoring cargo hold or fridge unit temperature.

How is a limit switch different from a door sensor?

A limit switch reports the mechanical position of a moving part such as a ramp or arm, while the AQM-22 door sensor is designed specifically for door or compartment open/close status.

Do wired sensors need their own power source?

No, they draw power through the tracker they are wired to, which is installed with a stable connection to the vehicle electrical system.
