GENERATOR

Entopizo supplies a generator GPS tracker for stationary and mobile generators, with live tracking, run-time data and alerts through our own platform and SIM.

A generator GPS tracker is built to watch equipment that sits idle for long periods and then needs to be found, protected or monitored for usage, not driven on a daily route. Generators are a common theft target because they are valuable, often left on job sites or rooftops, and rarely checked in person. This category is for rental companies, construction firms, event suppliers and facility managers who need a generator tracking device that reports location and status without depending on the unit being switched on.

Because a generator is an asset rather than a vehicle, the tracker itself must be self-powered, weatherproof and easy to hide or bolt inside a cabinet. We group suitable models here, from compact battery-backed units to waterproof devices that can also be wired to the generator's own electrics when available.

Why generators need an asset tracker

Generators move between sites, get left unattended overnight, and often have no ignition signal to rely on for status detection. An asset tracker for generators solves three problems at once: it shows where the unit is right now, it records when it was moved without authorization, and it can log engine run hours if wired to a relevant input. For rental fleets, this also settles disputes about usage time and location history.

  • Theft and unauthorized movement alerts
  • Recovery of stolen or misplaced units across multiple sites
  • Run-time and idle-time visibility for rental billing or maintenance planning
  • Proof of location for insurance or client disputes

How to choose a generator tracker

Start with power. Most generators are not constantly running, so a tracker with internal battery backup matters more than one relying solely on external power, since it needs to keep reporting even when the generator is off. Waterproofing is also important if the unit sits outdoors or in a damp enclosure. The Teltonika FMT100 is waterproof and simple to install, which suits generators kept outside or in exposed cabinets. For generators with available wiring, the Teltonika FMB140 with CanBUS can read additional engine data where the generator's electronics support it. Smaller, low-profile units such as the Teltonika FMB204 work where discreet placement matters more than deep integration. The Teltonika TAT140 4G is designed as a backup tracker, useful as a second, hidden device on high-value generators where redundancy against tampering is a priority.

Installation and the subscription

Installation on a generator is usually a matter of securing the tracker inside a weatherproof compartment or enclosure and, where applicable, connecting it to the generator's battery or wiring. No cutting into fuel or engine systems is required for standard GPS and alert functionality. Our team can advise on placement for the specific generator model.

Every tracker from Entopizo works through our own platform and our own SIM card on a subscription. This includes live position updates, movement and geofence alerts, history of past locations, and access through web and mobile apps. A tracker sold without a subscription still has GPS hardware inside, but without an active SIM and platform it cannot send its location anywhere, so there is no live tracking, no alerts and no stored history, only a device waiting for a data connection. Our subscription keeps the SIM active, the platform running, and support available if a generator goes missing.

Real use cases

A construction company renting out generators across multiple sites uses live tracking to confirm which unit is where, without phone calls to site supervisors. An event rental business sets geofences around storage yards and gets an alert the moment a generator is loaded onto a truck outside scheduled hours. A facilities manager with rooftop backup generators uses a waterproof tracker to monitor the units through winter without worrying about weather damage to the device itself.

Frequently asked questions

Can a generator be tracked without power from the generator itself?

Yes, trackers with internal battery backup can report location on their own, which is the usual setup for generators that are not always running.

What happens with a GPS tracker without a subscription?

The hardware still has GPS capability, but without an active SIM and platform behind it there is no way to see the location, receive alerts, or view history, since the device has no connection to send data through.

Can one tracker cover multiple generators in a rental fleet?

Each unit needs its own tracker, but all of them appear together on the same Entopizo platform account, so a fleet of generators can be monitored from one dashboard.

Is installation complicated on a generator?

No, in most cases it is a matter of mounting the tracker inside a protected enclosure and optionally connecting it to existing wiring, with no modification to the engine itself.
